The skin on our lips is much more delicate than that on other parts of the body and have low barrier function when exposed to elements such as sun and cold, dry air, making them prone to dryness, cracking, flaking, and peeling.

Start with exfoliation

When your lips are dry and chapped, the skin can begin to lift and flake. Gently exfoliating your lips can remove dead skin cells that can otherwise prevent your lip balm from reaching and moisturizing the new skin underneath the flaky areas.

You can try our organic lips scrubs or make your own with ingredients you probably have at home. You’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp. of an exfoliating ingredient, such as coconut sugar or Sea salt
  • 1 tbsp. of Organic honey or Organic Coconut oil Or Organic Olive oil

To make the lip scrub:

  1. Combine the exfoliating ingredient (salt or sugar) and emollient (oil or honey) in a bowl or container.
  2. Dip a cotton swab into the scrub
  3. Apply in a circular motion to your lips using gentle pressure.
  4. Gently wipe off using a damp washcloth.

Once your lips have been exfoliated, apply one of the following home remedies to help soothe, moisturize, and protect your chapped lips.

  • Coconut oil: It’s made from the flesh of coconuts and is a fantastic emollient, which means that it can soothe and soften the skin. Choose from our incredible organic coconut oils to find the perfect one for you.
  • Aloe vera: Known for its anti-inflammatory nature, Aloe vera gel also contains vitamins minerals, and antioxidants that soothe and hydrate damaged skin. You can use fresh aloe by cutting the leaf of the plant and slicing it open and scooping out the gel. You can also browse out 100% natural aloe vera.
  • Honey: It has highly moisturising, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and healing properties, which makes it an excellent treatment for dry or cracked lips. Apply organic honey to your lips twice a day.
  • Cucumber: Gently moisturizes the lips and contain vitamins and minerals that could improve the lips’ appearance. Cut in half and rub on lips.
  • Green tea: Is rich in antioxidants and minerals and reduces inflammation. Soak a bag of green tea in warm water and gently rub it over the lips to soften and remove excess dry skin.
  • Avocado Butter: Is well absorbed by the skin. It contains anti-oxidants and linoleic acid known to benefit the skin. Blend fresh avocadoes to a smooth consistency and apply with your fingers.
  • Natural lip balm: choose from our range of 100% natural, chemical free lip and organic lip balms.

Note: Stay away from commercial lip balms that may contain Camphor, menthol or phenol and dry your lips.
