About Kalari Kovilakom:

Mindfulness, awareness, a therapeutic engagement of the senses; and an inward integration of the body, mind and spirit, all these and more aspects of the Ayurvedic healing process are what one gains at CGH Earth Ayurveda’s Kalari Kovilakom. In an ethos where the best of tradition spills over to all aspects of living and an ambience where history and culture are a throbbing, living presence, Ayurveda in Kalari Kovilakom, offered by the CGH Earth and certified and accredited by the NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers), is an experiential definition of the traditional standards and values of this system of healing.

This ancient science of Ayurveda identifies and addresses the root cause of the problem and not just the symptoms, and at Kalari Kovilakom, we adhere to these strict tenets of the old school of Ayurveda. After understanding the condition, the course of treatment is decided for each patient. He or She is made to understand the complete procedure of the treatment and they are expected to follow through strictly for the best results from the treatment. In keeping with our principles, we take only residents above 14 years. The treatment course begins at a minimum duration of 14 days.

Set within the palace grounds of the old Vengunad kingdom with the majestic backdrop of the Wester Ghat range in Kerala, CGH Earth took over the reins of this palace and converted it to a traditional Ayurveda healing facility, while keeping its historic legacy intact. Kalari Kovilakom offers 19 unique palace rooms with modern amenities and a treatment facility with 12 treatment rooms. The living spaces and the gardens at Kalari Kovilakom complements the healing process with its nurturing and warm environment and an unobtrusive and quiet adherence to the discipline of Ayurvedic treatment.

Wat we offer

1.Ayurveda
Ayurveda prescribes a way of life that goes beyond remedies for ailments. It analyses our biological, psychological, emotional and spiritual personalities and accordingly arrives at a way of life that helps us realise our vitality. The Doctor prescribes a specific treatment course for each patient depending upon his or her prakruti. The Doctor begins by recognizing the reason for the irregularity and then correcting it. This approach and system was deciphered and established by sage-physicians thousands of years ago and was turned into scriptures, the tenets of which are followed even today.

2.Yoga and Meditation

Yoga is an essential booster of Ayurvedic treatments as it enhances the effect of the process administered. It’s a channel of integrating the body, senses, life forces, the mind and the consciousness. In that sense, it complements the entire healing process through practice of Aasanas, Pranayama and Meditation. The sessions include slow and steady Aasanas that give control over the mind and help sharpen it. Heavy exercising with swift movements during Ayurveda therapy is not recommended.

3.Diet

The diet is prescribed for each individual and is based each patient’s body constitution, medical history, if any, and the doctor’s diagnosis. We serve healthy Sattvic food and each meal is specially prepared in our kitchens using traditional recipes. The ingredients used in the prescribed diet are locally-sourced organic produce, with many of the fruits and vegetables grown in-house. Ayurveda does not recommend consumption of milk, sugar, bread, tea or coffee, and hence it is not served. We also request patients to refrain from consumption of alcohol, tobacco and food from outside, during the treatment course.

4.Satsang

The principle of ‘true company’ or Satsang is one of the fundamental elements of the Ayurveda philosophy. Satsang means an assembly of people who listen to, talk about and assimilate the truth. Satsangs are therefore a significant aspect of the healing process. Patients are encouraged to partake in enlightening discourses, classical music, dance performances and more such events during their treatment. This contributes immensely in the healing process.

5.Daily Routine

A typical day at Kalari Kovilakom begins with a wake-up call in the morning, followed by basic Yoga Aasanas and breathing exercises. Your first meal starts with a Sattvic breakfast. Please note that meals will be served in the dining hall and all are expected to follow the specifed meal timings. Breakfast is followed by doctor’s consultation and treatment course for the given day. There are two sessions of therapeutic massages, which are done as per the prescribed treatment course. Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) is an integral part of the Yoga therapy and is included in the daily schedule for the relaxation of body and mind. Basic Yoga Aasanas are repeated in the evening as well. Taking walks around the property, reading books, and feeding fish as part of Karma yoga are activities that are encouraged. The day ends with early dinner followed by meditation or Satsang.
